Matthew Capogreco, Upstate Cancer Center, 2019 Hops for Hope Honoree
Those who call Matthew a friend usually associate him with three things: cancer awareness and advocacy, creating and implementing creative events, and a love of craft beer. The first two are a combination of professional career and personal interest. He is the Program and Events Coordinator for the Upstate Cancer Center and spends much of his time on outreach to the community, event coordination internally and externally, and developing strategies on brand management. Matthew is also a 18 year survivor of a rare cancer called pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma. He was part of the creation of the Pheo Para Troopers (now the Pheo Para Alliance), the first pheo/para international patient advocacy and education group and has been leading the charge for over 10 years. The last, craft beer, started as a career but has developed into an interest he and his wife, Becky, both share. They were one of the first members of the Syracuse Craft Beer Enthusiasts (SCBE), a Facebook group promoting all things craft, and plan 'beercations' referring to themselves as 'hopportunitsts'. Matt and Becky have been to over 275 breweries together and firmly believe that craft beer lovers are the nicest people on earth. He only wishes to be counted among them.
